Oh, Happy Day!

Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians and Happy America Day to my fellow Americans (Hee-Hee Missy!) We've been busy having a fun summer and with all the time I spend on the computer with my school classes, I just haven't found a minute to fill you all in.

The kids and I went on a big adventure to the Kennecott Copper Mine. It's way out in the West part of the Salt Lake Valley. It's the largest open pit mine in the world. It was really amazing to see how big it was! They say you can see it from space! We watched a movie at the visitor center, checked out some different geological specimens under 3-D microscopes, and watched the mining operation from the observation deck. We went with a friend of mine and her daughter. We all had a great time!

We've had monsoon kind of weather for a few weeks now. One evening just after the kids went to bed, the rain cleared and this rainbow came out. It was really close so I couldn't get the whole thing in one picture. It was HUGE! It was beautiful. I got the kids out of bed so we could all admire Heavenly Fathers handiwork.

On Canada Day we had a party to celebrate even though I'm sure the neighbors thought we were a bit crazy doing fireworks a few days early! The kids made some GREAT Canada posters, we watched the dvd "Visions on Gold" about the 2002 Canadian Olympic Hockey Teams getting their gold medals, then we went out and put on a SPECTACULAR fireworks show! Actually we are very new to fireworks and didn't know really what they did so we put a few off then went inside because it was really windy and we didn't want to burn down the neighborhood!

For July 4th our ward hosted a neighborhood breakfast and bike parade. Kodie was very excited to decorate her scooter and be in the parade. She worked really hard on Friday to make her scooter look fabulous. With a little help from her mom it turned out great! She is very creative. We had a great time at the breakfast and Kodie has fun in the parade. There is a policeman in the ward and he had the lights and siren turn on in his squad car and led the kids around the block a couple times. We spent the day looking for a couch for the living room, then went to the Sandy City parade and fireworks. They had a couple live bands performing and Kodie was able to catch a CD on of the bands threw out. She was really excited. The fireworks were great (almost as good as Magrath fireworks hee-hee) and it was a great end to a fun day. The only thing missing was Chandler. He was invited to spend the weekend at Bear Lake with his friends family, you know, skiing and tubing and bonfires and smores! We will be so glad to see him home. Kodie kept saying that she missed Chandler and she really didn't like being an only child! I'm glad to hear she likes her brother!!
